Bifurcations During Bursting
There are two important bifurcations (transitions) associated with bursting dynamics:
- Bifurcation of the rest state that leads to repetitive spiking.
- Bifurcation of the spiking state that leads to rest (quiescence).
These bifurcations determine many characteristics of bursting, such as the firing pattern, co-existence of rest and spiking states, synchronization properties, etc.
