We have found an explicit formula for the phase equations for weakly coupled relaxation oscillators. The connection function H is discontinuous in the relaxation limit m ? 0, which provides a simple alternative proof to the major conclusion of the FTM theory by Kopell and Somers that synchronization of relaxation oscillators has properties quite different from those of smooth (non-relaxation) oscillators.
